I had another reel mishap when I was much younger. My first striper rod, was just a beefed up fresh water rod I used for landing all those lunker largemouth I was a pro at catching... anyway it wasn't a great rod. More of a back up, cause I preferred smaller lighter rods, and all my good stuff was witty bitty at the the time... anyway, the reel seat on it wasn't all that great and constantly came lose. One evening I took a cast off of a small jetty, and sure enough the reel went flying off into the water. I was so upset, cause it effectively ended my season that year in mid July. I end up going back at low tide the next day, because low tide was too late that night. I did find the reel, but it had already begun to rust.. I never bought a discount reel again...

I just have no luck with reels. Between dropping them, or pieces of them in the ocean, falling on and breaking a brand new Penn, or just having them malfunction on me. No amount of washing and lubing seems to make them last any longer for me... next reel I'll buy will be a VS.. if break that.. the next reel after that will be of a very disposable price..

MY ADVICE WOULD BE TO NOT BUY A VS!!! You will kill yourself when you drop it off a rock into 30' of water. ...and you know with your luck it's gonna happen
