My guess is that Volvo would have done OK if she had aired down. I used to see lots of VW bugs on the beach going like hell but they had aired down. Even big high trucks get dug in if they don't air down.
Most bizzar was a guy in a big motor home airing down then driving the beach down the Cape. He went all over for about a week and never got stuck despite just having 2WD. Funny thing to see!
