The software on your computer recognizes the orientation of the picture on rotates the view for you...thats why it looks ok on your computer.
The thing to note...its just the view not the image that is rotated...it is not permanent and local to the viewing software.
I am not exactly sure how the software does this...either by reading embedded data from the camera or via algorithms that guess orientation from patterns in the image.
Anyway...you will need to use an application to permanently change the orientation. Most viewing softwares have these options.
Also, often ....after you upload a pic there are editing options. I like uploading to photobucket...as it is free and it serves as a nice backup for the photo archive on the computer.
