I gave the stock hooks and splits a test last year and didnt change them out on purpose. 2 fish in the 8-12# class and they were mangled. Split ring was barely holding the hook on.
I go wolverines and 2/0 VMC's on mine. both belly and tail.
Love the SP's, specially early in the season.
