I have not fished into the "late season" in recent years but can remember back in the fifties and early sixties we would meat fish until the bass were gone. Which meant coming back from Squibby and/or the Bridge in North West Snow Squalls some trips.
Boat load of fish, cold but not noticing it due to load of Black Berry Juice and getting in and staying outside till supper was ready because as soon as we warmed up the Black Berry Juice would knock us out! Eat supper and fall asleep on the floor or if lucky, make it into bed. Get up at 0 dark 30 and wolf down some eggs, bacon, bass and coffee and head out to do it again. About every third day have to go to market to sell and then restock supplies, as in more eggs, bacon, coffee, and ah yes, more Black Berry Juice!
When the water temp gets below 54 they are reluctant to stay but if the bait is still here they will stay and eat. A big storm and they could disappear but if there were a couple warm days and bait showed up then another slug would come down the coast and it would be back to catching again.
