Natural variation occurs, absolutely (hence sunspots) but the 400ppm CO2 (and CH4) is a cause.

That isn't excusing squashing of science, if that is how it happened, it is wrong, but even with a down turn in sunspots, that DOES NOT preclude CO2 as a direct cause, in fact it could MASK some of the magnitude of impact for some length of time.
