You have a rod wrapper? If you can find 1/4" masking tape get that, the epoxy, some denatured alcohol for cleaning - like thouroughly cleaning the inside of the reel seat. I use to use the smooth handle of a butter knife for burnishing the wraps but you can get a burnishing tool for $3. Get Dale Clemmens' book Advanced Custom Rod Building and read it a couple of times - you'll figure out what you need to read (learning the spine is very important).
Other than that budget out some time, if you go with Black NCP over Black NCP thread you won't need the color preserver and you'll have a stealth rod...
