I def have a new found respect for the FG since I took a 60+ lb yellowfin on 30# leader to an FG but it's really how well the knot is tied which gives you variations in strength. I have whipped up an FG on the boat quick to change leaders and pitch bait to sharks. No problem getting 100# + sharks in on them either. If the knot is pulled tight correctly it is rock solid.
The Alberto has flaws. I have a modified version that goes through the guides better. But still suffers from weakening the more it's fished.
I have also been experimenting with another knot that shows promise.
I have the PR knots on my deep drop reels. 200# plus sword and no issues.
Best thing to do is find a knot you can tie quickly and with confidence in the setting you will be using it.
I've been lazy out on a rock and spun up a sugeons loop to an Aussie quickie for fun and had zero issues.
