Quoting this for Chris, since this started the discussion on this tangent. I didn't change the narrative.
Paul's point was that Trump had to get through a primary, ergo, Republicans supported him over more than a dozen other candidates. If they had rejected him as a con-artist back then, it would not have been Trump v. HRC in the general.
