Coal is not coming back anytime soon. We need to realize it, and figure out how best to move those areas on economically in the future.
If we were to stop using coal or oil for energy purposes, would we totally stop the mining of them? We would certainly need a lot less. But what about all the byproducts that are produced from them? I'm not arguing one way or the other, but am genuinely curious about it. I suppose we could find other ways to make the products that are now derived from them. Or just replace those products with something else.
