Rush and those who followed him influenced many, probably millions, to switch to the Republican or Libertarian Party from the Democrat Party. And he was very consistent in his beliefs. He didn't switch them to please ruling parties or keep advertisers. He had a few boycotts against him and his advertisers which hurt financially, but stayed on message. He bucked the establishment Republicans without fear that it would cost him listeners, ergo the numbers to attract advertisers. He gave away many, many millions of his own dollars to charity as well as raising money from his listeners to give more millions to those charities.

He had fairly strict conservative social values that many mistook for (or intentionally and fraudulently described as) racism, white nationalism, homophobia, etc. But he treated his callers and guests politely and fairly no matter what persuasion they came from. He believed in his brand of Americanism and was willing to rationally debate his values.

And he was instrumental in creating the pathway to alternative media which could counter the centralized mainstream corporate media. Which, in effect, created a foundation for a freer, more diverse, Press.
