pathology of ideological possession

Jordan Peterson, who I’m starting to like, refers to a condition he calls the pathology of ideological possession. he uses it to describe the very common situation today where people are so obsessed with their ideology, that they deny reality. For example, this condition is required for anyone who lives in my state of CT to claim that liberal economics works ( some of the highest tax rates applied to some of the highest incomes, plus untold
millions from the casinos to the state, yet our debt is in excess of $30,000 for every human being in our state). you have to deny empirical results and reality to come close to believing that.

There are plenty of conservatives with this condition, Sean Hannity would be a clear example, he can’t begin to think about why conservatives are right on an issue, he just clings thoughtlessly to the notion that they are right on every issue, and thoughtlessly dismisses anything to the contrary.

But it’s spreading like wildfire on the left, especially with this president. look at the posts started in the last two years.

Trump is one of the more flawed individuals imagineable. But if he said “two plus two is four”, MSNBC, CNN, and a few people here, would say “the hell it is”.
