Mainly because I don't take proper preventative care of my trailer and my bearings have blown 3 times on the road.
Now I only trailer it 2x per season to the launch to put it on a mooring and then pick it up.. and I hate every second of trailering.
I was just talking to my buddy about this last night. I hate it too for same reason and would love a mooring. Last summer I was heading with wife for a cruise on our anniversary and got two miles and the bearing was gone. Spent the day getting and installing a new bearing. Burned that one out on the next trip on the way to a scheduled appt. with the marine mechanic. While he had it he replaced the axle as he said that was the likely culprit and did the other mechanical things on the motor I asked for. When he called me to let me know it was ready he said "ya know the rim on that tire is bent and that is probably why you are burning bearings. You want to get one and replace that yourself or should I order one for you while it is here." I told him I thought it probably made sense to replace it before I towed it the 40 miles home and potentially wrecked the brand new axle.
