What works for me is manually closing the bail as soon as the lure hits the water then I have almost no slack when i start my retrieve. But overfilling yes. even though you think braid has no memory it will slinky off
Or another Trick I use cheap braid I find the more strands like the 8 strand and line tends to float around getting tangles around the tip as if magic was involved
