Got me thinking about these choke cherry trees, as we call them. So I googled, and the species is described as being a shrub or small tree, rarely over 30 ft tall.... Mine is easily double that height and sounds like yours is too. Reminds me of the Norway maple in that they appear fine. Yet are full of rot, gnarly wood, or disease when they come down...

On my sprawling estate

…. We have so many choke cherries and black walnut. They make such a mess but it creates a beautiful habitat for the birds and red squirrels.
