You live in CT and have unreal river opportunities, I'd say screw the 23-25 foot CC and get a hybrid you can affortd and have some fun anyway.
I take pretty good advantage of the river opportunities with the charter trips we do. Amazing what you can do without leaving the CT River in June. We'll do 8-10 charter trips this year. If I had my own boat I still wouldn't get out more than 10-12 times in a season. With that limited frequency, I'm fine hiring professional charters. That will eventually change, but I coach 2 different baseball teams in the spring, Boy Scouts, then high school football for my oldest in the fall.

You are 100% right, you don't need a 40 foot Invincible to catch plenty of stripers and sea bass. My last boat was a 19 foot Key West and we did great. But I'm content waiting until my kids are absolutely 100% secure, then getting what I really want, knowing I can leave it to my kids because it will be a very high quality saltwater fishing boat.
