Happy Thanksgiving to all of you. I am extremely thankful as I got home Tuesday evening after a five day stay in Mass General in Boston. I was fortunate to be accepted into a fairly new treatment for my emphysema

I am on oxygen for a week or so, I hope. Looks good. Had five Zephyr valves inserted into top right lobe, but then I suffered the major negative which is a pneumothorax or collapsed lung of the attached lobe. Happened between table and PACU. SUCKED. Worst 24 hours ever. Put in a chest tube drain. Five days in MGH instead of three. Just made myself get through the suck part and look forward. Breathing definitely improved. Body has to accept the change. I will be driving a desk until the new year and direct my son to get the projects done. I consider myself lucky to qualify this fairly new option to treat emphysema. Between smoking for 40 years and all the sawdust, concrete, fiberglass I have breathed..... Blessed. And Thankful!

The people at MGH are AWESOME and YOUNG! I felt very secure there. Just another reason we don't live in Florida...

If you know of someone with emphysema or other COPD diseases. tell them to look into Zephyr valves. MyLungsMyLife.com And I am happy to talk with them. I must tell you it took over six months of testing and I was fortunate to be in the 20% that get accepted.
