Interesting listening to my FIL talk about his experiences as a top turret gunner on a B17 bomber. As he lived out his final years under my care.
I said to him "top turret gunner must be the most important job of the crew"
No he said. "the Pilot" I asked? No he said "it was the Navigator because you could shoot down plenty of jap fighter planes but it didnt matter...only the navigator can get the bomber back to the base before the fuel runs out"
