You don't have to go that far to fish for sharks thru the ice. They get them quite often in Quebec from the Saguenay River, where it enters the St. Lawrence Gulf, which is the salt water end of the St. Lawrence River. It is approx due west of the northern most tip of Maine. They get halibut and cod and redfish all the time.
