i usually carry two or three lights on me at all times. two years ago, while fishing the spring CT river run, i was landing a fish. the spot i was fishing was about 40' from shore, in a strong current, the bottom is all softball to football size rocks. well, when i was pulling the bass up-current to me, i switched my headlight on. the bass surfaced just below me, splashed, and the plug was propelled at my head. i ducked and hit the light off my head. i had the pleasure of watching my headlamp float downstream and out of sight. i had no back up light that night, and was forced to finish the night in darkness. i have made a point since then to take spairs with me.
