Oops, just remembered two more:

Saw some guy sing outdoors on the quad at Wheaton College on a sunny afternoon in 1968, had no idea who the hell he was - there were like 300 coeds and me and one other guy there in the audience sitting on the grass. He just played by himself on a small platform with an accoustic guitar and only had one small Fender amp. Found out he had just released his first album on Apple Records titled "Sweet Baby James."

Needless to say, me and the other guy pretty much went largely unnoticed by the 300 panting coeds.

Saw all the Taylors, Kate, Livingston, Alex et al. minus James at a wedding my wife and I went to on the Vineyard in the mid-Eighties - they sang backup to Carly Simon, who sang the Everly Brothers' "Devoted to You" to the newlyweds at their reception. That really was pretty special - Carly even brushed right against me as she departed the stage and I smiled at her - and again, I went largely unnoticed.

Hey, wait a minute - what the hell, what am I, Claude Raines?

Awww, it's probably just as well - Mrs. Crafty woulda been pissed if Carly started hittin' on me.

"There is no royal road to this heavy surf-fishing. With all the appliances for comfort experience can suggest, there is a certain amount of hard work to be done and exposure to be bourne as a part of the price of success." From "Striped Bass," Scribner's Magazine, 1881.
