At worst, you may have to replace the worm gear in addition to the pawl. Neither requires an engineering degree

Even a klutz like myself can do it.
Start with the pawl--they're about a buck apiece at Buckos. Just loosen the screw-in cap on the bottom of the guide--the old one will come out, the new one goes in prongs up. If that doesn't fix the problem, or if the level wind works fine for a short time and then starts acting up again, you'll probably have to do the worm gear, too.
