When I do keep a bass for the table I always do an autopsy of the stomach contents and I regularly find 3-6" lobsters more often than not.

However, in the early 80's I did catch - and keep - a 38 lb bass at Pt. Jude on a live eel and in it's stomach were several small lobsters, a couple of juvenile flatties and what appeared to be a partially digested clamcake from Aunt Carries.

I suspect the clamcake had been there for a while.

"There is no royal road to this heavy surf-fishing. With all the appliances for comfort experience can suggest, there is a certain amount of hard work to be done and exposure to be bourne as a part of the price of success." From "Striped Bass," Scribner's Magazine, 1881.
