What a weekend of spring skiing. I had my corporate race finals at Ascutney Saturday and Sunday. Both days were absolutely beautiful. I managed a 2nd and 3rd in the slalom on Saturday and a 3rd in the GS on Sunday. But bigger than any trophy or shinier than any metal, I was thinking on the way into work this morning how lucky I am. My wife and youngest daughter (who is 6) cheering me on at my race. My daughter looking at me like I am bigger than life as I cross the finish line. At six, there are not too many trails she will not ski. She, like her older sister who is 13, has caught the ski bug that was deliberately passed on to them by their ol man. I had a very simple plan from the first time they were on skis...make it fun and they will come back for more. I even managed to throw in a little competitiveness to make it interesting, and they still come back for more.
If there is one thing I always wanted to pass on to my kids it is my love for skiing. I think I have succeed.
This coming weekend its off to Stratton to coach one of my racers who made J3 regionals. Then a final trip to Loon March 25 - 28 with the family for a run race sponsored by MT Dew.
Life is good!
