Here's an interesting experiment...

Listen to the spring peepers when they are in full "peep"

then

get a copy of that old classic sci-fi movie "THEM" and listen to the sound that the ants make.

The first time I heard spring peepers was after a day of fishing up in Chelmsford. I stopped just past the Concord river when I heard an unusual sound coming from the marsh along the riverbank. Once I stopped, the sound was incredible, echoing all around me. I started laughing, because it instantly made me think of that movie.
