When we can't get live mackerel we switch to chunking herring!!!
Here in Gloucester we have 2 herring boats that take out there trip here every other day. So herring is easily available for us!!!
When chuming you want to chum using differant sizes so that the fish just don't key on one size!!!
If you don't have a boat you can also chunk from shore!!!
