During my dinner with the VP I told (her) that cox should give away internet service to everyone in the state FREE for 3 months. No one would give it up after that. They would sooner adjust theri food budgets then give up the cable modem. Most people who use dial up have no idea wht they are missing out on. Broadband cable has the lowest turn off rate of any service EVER! Once you get it, your hooked. When they raised rates...no one dropped the service.. My COX internet costs 34.99/ month . My neighbor has AOL (25 /mo) + and extra phone line via verizon @ 28 bucks /mo and lives live with busy signals and 56K with the family fighing for the connection...duh? His kids plead with me to convice their dad to get cable.
RE cox job:
I really think you should at least drop your CV off at COX..You KNOW they need software/network guys.... You might even be able to swing a working@home deal at least for some of the time. You really should inquire. They have got some serious pressure on them to migriate 500K+ customers over to an untested and unfinished system. And they want continued growth. You know they are offering jobs to @home support guys.
Go back to a modem...You got to be kiddin..I transfer about a 500 megs to a gig of data via ftp nearly every day between my office here and DC. It is not an option for me. DSL....Good technology but the distance limits are killer, I know I am out of range.
If I had to I would go satallite but the speeds are not as good as cable and it is 3X more expensive then cable.
