Without starting another long distance pissing contest I will add a couple things, whereas the internet might reduce the learning curve for some it's still no substitute for time on the water. For some people, the TMI factor of the Internet can LENGTHEN the learning curve. Kinda like shopping for digital cameras on the iNternet, you can easily be overwhelmed with Too Much Information.

Second, the Internet can sometimes take the old timer advice out of the mix, that one or two people that take you under their wing and pass on a lesson here and a lesson there when we're ready for it, not when we want it. I've been fortunate to have been taken under some wings and many of those lessons I have not found online.

Damn, I thought I said I was going to shut up now. OK. I'll really shut up
