My solution: A hefty chunk of fresh herring with a 3oz weight.
I have been attempting to fish the big (10-12ft breakers) surf the last coupla nights (7-8PM). First night did well as the fish were right in the waves but last night all that was in the waves was zillions of pounds of mung/weeds. You guys know the kind I'm talking about, it adheres itself to every inch of your line and instantly surrounds and smothers whatever you have attached to the end of your line. Futile fishing under those conditions.
