Couple things to think of, find moving water running across structure, be it a rock pile, point, or a ledge, get your baits/eels down low, and fish night/sunset/sunrise tides. Just improves your odds. The same as surfcasting but more mobility and choice. Also consider that the south side of the island "MAY" be better more often.
