I have 6 Penn Slammers with Shimano 6500's on them and thats all I use is Fireline.
I keep about 50 yards of backing and fill the rest of the spool with the 300 yard spools of fireline (20lb test), haven't lost a fish yet.
It takes a licking and keeps on ticking! I do peel off about 6 feet though on every trip out just to keep the line fresh from abraisions.
It lets you feel the fish alot more than mono, only drawback is it don't stretch, when you do eventually hook a rock one thing you can count on is its not going to be easy to get it out.
