bronko,

The surf scene has slowed here considerably in recent weeks. Bluefish will be the primary action along south beach with best bet in the AM. and again in the late afternoon (surface plugs like roberts rangers and metal jigs will get you connected. (check the local shops when you get here...they have what you need (plugs and current info) and they will spill the beans if you spend a little $.

You can certainly try for bass at night and you stand a good shot at hooking up but the action is pretty slow in the middle of summer. Right now it is mainly a boat thing as far as bass goes. The last two times I went this past week(from the surf) I was skunked once and schoolied out the second.

Here is a fun thing to try in late july and aug...

Drive over to tashmoo, or Menemsha jetties on the *outgoing* tide in the early AM or dusk. Bring light spining gear with brand new metal jigs.

Bones are here! (bonito) and they can be a lot of fun from the shore. and they taste great on the grill when you get home.

You will see small bass on the surface in these areas during early dawn...but I doubt you can catch them...they are *very* picky now and there is a lot of live bait for them to pick on. If you *really* want them...bring your fly rod and some sandeel like flies.

Your best bet for a bigger bass is at night in the ocean with plugs and eels but again, this is not the prime time. Think blues and bones from shore now.

From a boat...anything is possible..bass blues tuna bones shark even white marlin. (again, the local shops can hook you up with a charter capt or shore guide)

Good Luck!
