Used to be rare to see them, if you did it was like, "Hey!, I saw a seal, cool!"
Then not as rare.... then.... sand dabs... remember them, you could catch them on a shiny hook... fluke, flounder, all started thinning out... last fluke off the beach for me was in the late 80's, probably the last dab, too... more seals, then still more, certain bait fish, were less plentiful, sand eels too. Last half of the 90's till now, there #'s have gone way, way up.
Gettin bolder too, they swim right up to the surfers, and kayakers.. my son was resting on his boogie board, had one pop up right next to him and eyeball him... kid said they have some wicked nasty-assed breath... he was that close.
