Steve, unfortunately, these things sometimes happen. It will work out for the better. Seriously, take this opportunity to think of something you'd really love to try, but probably never would have if you'd stayed with the company.

I was laid off the week I returned from my honeymoon. Talk about a letdown. It was pretty depressing, but I got a new job in a little over 3 weeks. Now that job sucked, but it put me into the position to change my whole career without going thru extensive schooling or anything. I just got lucky and was in the right place/right time and met the right people and now I'm as happy as I've ever been.

Good luck and you're probably better off its not fishing season... you might have fallen into the habit of fishing everyday and never go back.
