You are, unfortunately, not in the minority.

My wife works for a vet and volunteers at the local shelter.
You would be amazed how many people do not know that it is always a bad idea to give dogs (or cats) bones to chew on.

Dogs tend to gulp things down after a couple chomps, and after years of domestication they have mostly lost the ability to process the bones the way their ancestors (wolves) do.

Same for housecats.
Chicken bones can be really bad news as they do tend to splinter and can do the same damage to a cat as you have had to your dog.

There is a fine line that seperates a fisherman from a fool standing in water swinging a stick.
