Sr.'s idea was to make it appear a small bait fish was getting eaten or chased by a bigger one. Some had a slightly different paint scheme on the front, than the rear, and some had small eyes on the front critter, and larger ones on the back.
They are a different needle, perform nice in running current, or heavy surf, sit, suspend, will hold in a current, very versatile design. I lost my "original"
