I have it on a Custom E-Glass (pac bay) 9ft rod nothing special 1-3oz Loads the cast reel nice great action for fighting fish and working plugs. I have fuji #50's on the bottom seems to work good but I don't think a larger guide will hurt

If you got the cash go with a XRA rod from Lami. IT will put you back $300 but as they say you get what you pay for
