Anyway, all thread-jacking aside, I think these are good recommendations for a surfcasting library to go through over the winter- unfortunately, some are out of print and may require a little digging through used bookstores. The asterisk indicates books currently out of print -

Just off the top of my head:

Striper - John Cole

The Striped Bass - Nick Karas

Striper Bass Fishing - Woolner and Lyman

On the Run - David DiBenedetto

Reading the Water - Robert Post (Just reprinted)

Twenty Years on the Cape and Striper Surf - Frank Daignault

Saltwater Fishing Is Easy - Jerry Sylvester*

Fishing the Surf - Raymond Camp*

The Shining Tides - Win Brooks*

Fishing the Atlantic* - Kip Farrington or Women Can Fish* by Chisie Farrington

Anything by OHP Rodman, such as The Saltwater Fisherman's Favorite Four* or Striped Bass Fishing*

Saltwater Fishing by Van Campen Heilner*

On my reading list for the winter is 'The Striper Chronicles' , 'Night Tides' by Billy the Greek, 'Fishing the Bait Tail'* by Al Rheinfelder - and 'Fishing With Hemingway' -

That would certainly be a good start - check with S-B site sponsor Joe Lyons at www.surfcasting-rhodeisland.com for some of these current titles - the others are going to take some digging but are well worth the effort!

"There is no royal road to this heavy surf-fishing. With all the appliances for comfort experience can suggest, there is a certain amount of hard work to be done and exposure to be bourne as a part of the price of success." From "Striped Bass," Scribner's Magazine, 1881.
