Sailboats cannot pull a waterskier, are lousy to fish with (but you think a trolling motor is quiet - try a 470
) but for no fishing fun, a cranked up tight 470 in a 25 knot wind with two people trapping out, the hull resonating a low-mid frequency gliding thru the water, and the transom open to let all the water out is pretty awesome... It can be very exhilirating - much like standing on a rock, casting into a 35kt wind with waves crashing infront and on you dousing with spray...
But when my son is old enough to learn to sail, it will teach discipline of craft handling, attention on the water, and seamanship skills that will last a lifetime...
Oh yeh, capsizing boats on purpose can be fun
