Was at a newstand the other day and when I was buying my paper the Middle-Eastern clerk began a lively conversation over the election. He excitely and with obvious joy explained to me who exactly the Iraqis voted for and how their system will work. Can't solve the bigger picture but I can say that the sacrifice and service of our troops certainly impacted this man's life and world-view in an amazing way. I have never conversed with an American who had this pride and joy over our ability to vote. This conversation certainly brought a more personal side to a lot of soundbites and protracted debates concerning what is best for, and the desire of, the Iraqi people...
Thinking about it all makes me glad that I can get in my car, drive to the beach, throw out a line and think on nothing but fish... Simple pleasures in the midst of greater, heavier realities.
