Depends on depth and current/drift. For MV, I would typically use a 3 way rig with a 4-6oz weight since the drift was fast and the depth was between 50-100 ft.

For outer beaches, we were typically drifting in 25-40 ft so a 2oz egg sinker was fine. Further south along the monomoy rips, no weight was usually needed if you dropped correctly.
