AOL & POP3...

Hello,

I have a friend who has AOL and he wants to use AOL to access a POP3 email account on a non-AOL server (like the rest of the free world does with Outlook Express). I looked on the AOL website and found the following.

http://www.help.aol.com/help/browse....AC_ProductPage

While AOl has all sorts of info on accessing AOL mail (located on their servers) with various mail clients, it appears that you can not point your AOL mail client to send/retrieve email to/from non-AOL servers. Is this correct?

In otherwords, do I just tell my friend that he is going to have to suck it up and use Outlook Express, Netscape, or something else?

In which case he will have 2 options...

1) Read his AOL email via AOL and his non-AOL email with Outlook Express.

2) Setup Outlook Express to point to AOL's servers (as AOL instructs) and do everything (including non-AOL email) from within Outlook Express.

In the second case, I think he would be understandably perturbed that he will have to manually migrate over his address books and existing folders/filters, Correct?

Thanks,
Mike
