On the contrary. I don't think the scud is ugly, the time is just not put into putting the clearcoat on. But once any plug hits the rocks the plug is gonna get beat up. Yeah some could be heavier, but you just have to examine before you choose your plug. The scud is a prime example of a plug that is basically homemade and catches just as much and sometimes more than the big money plugs out there. Are those pretty plugs out there worth spending $20-25. For some people they are, they're like artwork. But for me I've learned over the years that when the fish are biting on plugs anything that pulses in the water will catch you fish, whether it's $20 or $10.
