how old is that reel? how old is that drag? on ht100 drags, i would replace them either weekly, monthly, or when needed as determined by the amount of times that reel went fishing, how often it had good fish on, and how often it was under water. ht100's do require maintenance to clean them of salt and oil deposits to keep them clean and smoothe. also, make sure there is no salt build up inside the spool where the drags are placed. slat build up was one of the main reason my drags became sticky on these ht100 dragged reels.

also, whenever you are casting or spinning w/ lighter lures or eels, you need to make sure the line s going on somewhat tight or else it will get burried into itself and break. you seem to know that, and worked on it too.
