Regarding trip sharing, check out
www.carpoolworld.com. These folks offer a very slick product for trip sharing, with the capability of setting up separate, independent ride share groups. I think the usual application of this technology is for home-to-work commuting, but it seems like it would work great for anglers wanting to share expenses, minimize consumption of petroleum, and limit greenhouse and other bad emissions.
