In heavier mono (I never saw the need to use heavy flouro) I use a simple clinch with fewer turns. IMO it's more important to get the knot snug than it is to add the turns or pass it thru the loop with as you do with an improved clinch.
Another option is to use the "non slip loop" knot. Tie a loose overhand knot in the leader about 6-8" from the end. Pass the tag end thru the eye of the lure, leaving yourself about an inch diameter loop between the overhand knot and the lure. Then go up thru the overhand knot with the tag end, take three wraps around the standing part, and bring the tag end down thru the open overhand, then tighten it up. The knot is basically a three-turn bowline.
