i don't think the diameter of the loop has as much affect on the action as the size of the snap.But whatta i know.
One thing i know for sure is the split ring affects the action and i take them off all my store bought stuff.
Get some pics of your woodies up on the board. I know u mentioned u were'nt happy with the paint, but the epoxy does miracles on the paint when cured.
