You have some good ideas Patrick. Here are some thoughts that that I think you need to pay attention to if you are really going to try something new.
First , with a danny swimmer , the way the lure floats is important. If it rides too hogh or too low , you will have trouble. In addition to how high it sits in the water , there is a delicate balance to the lure. That is it can't sit with its tail too low and the head too high even if the average boyancy is correct. So whatever you do to the tail to increase castability , you have to be sure not to ruin the action of the lure.
A second thing I wanted to point out was the exactness to which the metal lip is formed. As an experienced plugger , I'm sure you know you can change the swimming action and depth of retrieve by bending the lip up or down. If you have a hinged swimming lip , you may find that the depth of retrieve gets very erratic and unpredictable.
There is certainly room in this would for a bettre swimming plug. Good luck on your project to make one.
