for those still interested....the tog season still going great. fished sat off of various rocks off of newport in sunny FAC waters. lots of boats out. after a very very slow start things picked up. managed to get two of the party into their first togs ever.

average size was 6 lbs. largest about 8.5 lb. i think we caught about 8-9 keepers and 2-3 shorts in 2 hrs.

oh, and as for gear, we use smaller conventionals for fun. lately been using avet sx's with 50 lb PP, or 17 lb sufix siege with a 12 ft 50 lb leader (it's one of my surf reels). also accurate boss 270 works really well too. havent lost any fish with these micro reels. or not due to their small size anyways.

sometimes we use bigger reels, like a 112H spooled with 40 lb or penn 225 ld's spooled with 50.

never tried a newell....
