I just think that BOTH sides operate with a "my way or the highway" attitude, which inherently leaves little option for communication and always pushes towards violence.

I'm not saying I have the answers, just that making this a black or white issue isn't going to solve problems. They're never going to stop blowing stuff up, and we of course can't go all the way militarily and scrub them off the planet.

Maybe it's an overly optimistic view (but I don't think so unless you seriously think bombing them into oblivion is an option), but at some point some common ground, even a little, needs to be found. Security policies need total reinvention and the roots of the problems need to be addressed, as opposed to addressing just the end result of violence. United States Security should not only be thought of as a military issue.

Diplomacy seems to be a lost art. Someone, somewhere needs to offer an olive branch. Of course, the past couple decades of policy has kind of pushed things towards a point of no return...
